The Protege is a documentary film about a pair of misguided love-able and lost fools - Leslie Girdle and Ross Kemp (no relation).

Leslie, a former chiropodist and now aspiring tennis coach, has an unwavering belief that Ross, who he met at Center Parcs, will one day be a Wimbledon champion under his unconventional tutelage.

The Protege is their story, leading up to Ross' first competitive match.
